Hi, and thanks for stopping by. On this channel I will share and post rare jazz recordings that I've collected through roughly 20 years of trading with people from across the globe. My main focus is on the music of jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius, but I will from time to time also post recordings from other artists that I hope you will find interesting. P.S I didn't tape any of these recordings myself. I was born in 1986, so I wasn't even alive at the time when many of them were made. So to any of you who taped these recordings back in the day reading this, please do not hesitate to contact me so that I can give you proper credit!

NHØP - Solo Bass Concert( Live in Hamburg in 1979)
Here's a phenomenal solo bass concert recording with the late Danish virtuoso Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen or simply NHØP, the abbrevation that was/is widely used. In addition to being one of the finest recorded performances of his career in my opinion, it also has sublime sound quality. Known outside Scandinavia primarily for his collaborations with pianist Oscar Peterson, NHØP was as musically versatile as they come. He excelled at everything from playing the most tender and lyrical ballads to bebop tunes at blistering tempos. All facets of his extraordinary musicianship are covered in this stellar concert. You also get a glimpse of his dry humor and warm personality as he talks to the audience inbetween tunes. On some of the tracks he plays along to pre recorded bass parts. The concert took place at the Rolf-Liebermann studio in Hamburg, Germany in 1979 recorded and broadcasted by German radio. I don't have the exact date unfortunately. I hope you'll enjoy this piece of jazz history :)

Here's an excellent recording of internationally acclaimed bassist/composer and Weather Report co-founder Miroslav Vitous playing the jazz standard "Solar" along with some pre recorded percussion. This entirely solo concert took place in Bath, England on June the 5th in 1990.

Here's a great recording of Jaco Pastorius, Bireli Lagrene(guitar) and Serge Bringolf(drums) performing Henry Mancini's "The Days Of Wine And Roses" at the Pistoia auditorium in Pistoia, Italy on December the 8th in 1986. Jaco leaves most of the spotlight to Bireli but takes a short and concise solo towards the end.

Here's a great sounding recording of Jaco soloing over "Donna Lee" during a concert that took place on April 21st in 1982 in Boulder, Colorado. The full band during this concert was: Jaco Pastorius - bass, Randy Brecker trumpet, Bob Mintzer - tenor saxophone/bass clarinet, Peter Erskine - drums, Othello Molineaux steel drums, Malando Gassama - percussion.

Here's a recording I just received in a trade. It's a bass solo from a gig Jaco did at Seventh Avenue South on November the 22nd in 1985. Jaco covers a lot of musical ground in this solo, quoting "Portrait Of Tracy", "The High And the mighty", "Blackbird" and "Amerika" as well as throwing in some of his signature licks. All done with flawless execution.

You know what gets me about Jaco? I always used to think he could play as well as he did right out of the gate from the very first day he picked up a bass guitar, I just can't imagine him as a beginner, it's like he was a total natural and always a virtuoso from day one.❤
